Janet Mock is the New York Times bestselling author of Redefining Realness and the host of So POPular! A weekly MSNBC digital series about culture. She is a sought-after speaker and the founder of #GirlsLikeUs, a social media project that empowers trans women.
Born in Hawaii, Janet’s story of growing up trans caught the nation’s attention in a 2011 Marie Claire. Since then she’s become one of the most influential trans women and millennial leaders in media. I remember seeing that story and just thought how bold she was to step into her truth publicly. She released Redefining Realness: My Path to Womanhood, Identity, Love & So Much More in February 2014 and nothing but magic happened from there.
Now in 2015 she travels the world and shares her story to the world with fab hair. She opened up a conversation that people were extremely afraid to talk about. The biggest story this year was about Caitlyn Jenner's and her transition into womanhood. I think that really pushed people to talk about certain issues and how young men or women are going through this fight on the daily. I find it so courageous and simply beautiful for anyone to step into their truth. 2015 has been a wonderful year of stepping into truths and influencing others along the way. I can only imagine was 2016 will look like.
