Supermodel Ajak Deng Is Offically Done With the Fashion Industry

Australian supermodel Ajak Deng has announced her retirement from the fashion industry. The 26-year old seasoned vet says she can no longer deal with " the fakes and the lies" in the fashion industry. Ajak who has walked the runway for such high-profile fashion houses as Louis Vuitton, Valentino and Calvin Klein.

She announced her departure on Instagram, saying, “I am happy to announce that I am officially done with the fashion industry, I will be moving back to Australia in order to live the life that I fully deserved. Which is real life."I can no longer deal with the fakes and the lies. My life is too short for this dramatic life. I am thankful and grateful for every sweet souls that I have crossed path with.”

There is not lie that the fashion industry has not shown more diversity in runway and print. I remember first seeing Ajak on the runway and thinking she was extremely stunning. Her chocolate skin glows on any runway and has an extensive resume in modeling that will carry on forever.
So when she announced via Instagram that she was "officially done with the fashion industry," everyone took note. The news comes as a complete surprise in the wake of New York Fashion week where Deng walked in a number of top shows including Marc Jacobs' revolutionary show, which featured a cast of more than 20 models of color. We cannot afford to loose Black talent such as hers in an industry that is already lacking in terms of color. I truely hope this brings major awareness to the fashion industry because they don't want to lose supermodels.

One thing I'm learning in life is that you have to stand for something or fall for anything. I admire Ajak's decision and wish her the best of luck on her journey. Ajak will always be an iconic supermodel but now it is time for the next chapter.
