The Beauty In Essence Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon

The ninth Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon hosted by Essence magazine was held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. The event gathered some of the industry’s biggest names together to honor and embrace black women in film.

The event included appearances by Oprah, Shonda Rhimes, Meagan Good, Tia Mowry, Kelly Rowland, Mara Brock Akil, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Cheryl Boone Isaacs, Tina Knowles, ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey, Nate Parker, Thandie Newton, Lala Anthony and more.

I watched the luncheon Saturday night and was in complete love with all the abundance of women. Support amongst black women is everything and when we power up no one can stop us. Tracee Ellis Ross was awarded the Fierce and Fearless Award by her sister Rhonda Ross.  Shonda Rhimes presented the final award to her friend Debbie Allen with the final award (Allen has worked on all three ShondaLand properties: Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder). The beauty in that room resignated with me so much because it gave me inspiration and power to be myself in everything I do. The power we have is indestructible.
